Ranginui Hunting's Heritage

The Maori name Ranginui means Big Sky, chosen to reflect the strong Maori heritage of the area and the skyline setting for the lodge. As hunters and farmers the sky is an integral part of our lives. When you get up in the morning or relax in the evening you can see for miles... under the big sky...

Mark Brough is a professional hunting guide (see profile below). Ranginui also employs guides who are experienced hunters, and for whom hunting is a passion. They all continue to do their own hunting as well as guiding.

Mark looks forward to sharing his rugged corner of the King Country with you soon...

Introducing Mark...

Hunting has always been a special part of Mark's life. Growing up on a farm in the central North Island gave him great access to some of the best hunting country New Zealand has to offer. As a youngster Mark used possum trapping and goat capture to supplement his income, and hone his bushcraft. The experience gained from a tally of over a thousand wild pigs, and a life time's deer stalking, makes Mark a skilled, instinctive hunter.

These days he gets as much pleasure assisting others hunt their trophy game as organizing his own trips. It's tracking, the thrill of the chase, and the companionship of other hunters, which are the real attractions of hunting for Mark.

Mark has hunted extensively throughout New Zealand. As well as pursuing deer and pigs in the rugged North Island bush, Mark also delights in hunting the Tahr and Chamois in the South Island peaks. With a track record of organizing successful and entertaining hunting trips in a variety of locations, he has the knowledge and experience to ensure that his companions capture their trophies, and challenge themselves.

Known by his friends and clients, as a modest, very capable, and entertaining companion, Mark believes hunting is about capturing the trophy and great company. If you are ready to enjoy yourself, he'll make sure you have a great time.

Mark is a member of NZ Professional Hunting Guides, the Waitomo Search and Rescue team, and SCI International.
