Tahr Hunting

Tahr are often described as the ultimate alpine animal to hunt. When you see them in their natural habitat you can understand why hunters like to secure this trophy animal. Originally from the Himalayas in Asia they were introduced to New Zealand in 1904.

Tahr live in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. They are found around the snow line. Their extremely thick coats mean that they need to be in the cooler regions.

The male (bull) Tahr has horns which grow in excess of 12 inches long. The body weight of a fully grown bull can be up to 100 kilos.

Hunting bull Tahr is a very strenuous activity and very rewarding. The bull makes an excellent trophy. The beauty of the Southern Alps adds that bit extra to the hunt.
